Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. LG G4 – A Tough Confrontation Between Weighty Android Handsets
Samsung Galaxy S6 and LG G4 are two premium handsets that were revealed this year, if you are indecisive when it comes to these two gizmos, this comparison will shed some light.
Design and display
Samsung Galaxy S6 is made out of an aluminum chassis and a sturdy glass back while the LG G4 is made out of plastic, but if you want to get your hands on the premium variant you can opt for the leather LG G4 version which comes in a vast array of shades. The latter also sports a slight curvy look (chassis and screen), so this might be appealing for some. Either way, in terms of looks, they are both champs.
Display wise, the S6 device has a 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,440×2,560 and 576ppi. The LG G4 device has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display with the same resolution but only 538ppi. Each of these devices has amazing colors and you won’t have any trouble as far as brightness is concerned.
Specs and performance
Samsung Galaxy S6 has an octa-core Exynos 7420 chipset, two quad-core CPUs (one running at 1.5GHz and the other one at 2.1GHz), and a Mali-T760 GP as well.
The LG G4 on the other hand packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808. The latter 808 is basically a six-core processor, a 1.8GHz dual-core CPU and a 1.4GHz quad-core CPU. The latter has Adreno 418GPU and 3GB of RAM is included in both devices.
The Galaxy S6 handset comes in the following storage options: 32/64/128GB whereas the LG G4 device can be found only in the 32GB variant. However users can expand LG G4’s memory with the use of a microSD card, so feel free to add up to 128GB, both devices have Bluetooth and support 4G, however the S6 device does have the fingerprint reader addition, thus putting to shame the LG G4. Besides the latter element, the S6 device also has a heart rate sensor as well support for ANT+ gizmos.
Camera, battery and price sticker
The snapper included in the Galaxy S6 device has 16 MP plus the autofocus, OIS which means crisp photos even in petty conditions, the front facing camera unit is a 5MP one and it is great for selfies, especially in low-lighting conditions because it has an f/1.9 aperture.
The snapper added in the LG G4 is a 16 MP one as well and because it has a lower f/1.8 aperture, the photos are also neat, no matter how the lighting is, it also has the autofocus element (mirrors the laser type one found in LG G3) but with an improved “color-spectrum sensor”.
Battery wise, the Samsung Galaxy S6 has a 2,600mAh capacity while the LG G4 is equipped with a 3,000mAh battery (detachable one), quick charge is supported by both devices.
As far as price is concerned, for a rate of £33.50/month (contract based) you can have either one of these smartphones. But if you’re not interested in contracts, you can get the base variant of the Galaxy S6 device for £600 while the 128 GB variant is priced at £720, LG G4 (the plastic cover version) costs £290 while for the leather version you could end up paying £320.
