iPhone 6S vs. Nexus 5X – A Premium Metal Flagship Or A Cheap Plastic Mid-Range Smartphone?
Google created a big buzz with its latest Nexuses, making many LG fans very happy when they’ve heard that this company will bring a successor for the Nexus 5. Apple has focused on improving the iPhone 6, keeping its design and dimensions, but providing a faster processor and more advanced cameras. Here’s a comparison between the Nexus 5X and iPhone 6S.
Designs and Displays
Between the iPhone 6 and 6S there’s no significant difference in terms of design. They’re both made of aluminum, have curved edges and rounded corners and thin horizontal strips on theirs backs, but their dimensions are approximately the same. The new model is a bit taller, wider and thicker, because the material from which it is made is more durable and doesn’t bend anymore. Apple has created a new aluminum alloy called 7000 series, which made the iPhone 6S measure 138.3×67.1×7.1mm, and the device is 20grams heavier than its predecessor, weighting 143grams. Also, there’s a new color option – Rose Gold and inside the 4.7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD screen supporting a resolution of 750×1334 pixels at 326ppi was integrated a new technology called 3D Touch, transforming the screen into a pressure-sensitive surface, which will react according to the level of pressure applied by the user.
The Nexus 5X is not as beautiful as its rival, as it features a plastic back with the rear camera in the top center, plus a new fingerprint scanner under it. The shape of the body is rectangular, its dimensions are 147×72.6×7.9mm and it’s 7grams lighter. The screen is larger, measuring 5.2-inch and it supports a Full HD resolution at 424ppi.
The iPhone 6S is powered by the faster Apple A9 dual-core 1.84 GHz Twister processor which does a great job in collaboration with a PowerVR GT7600 (six-core graphics) GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Nexus 5X has a decent performance, not the greatest, but for a mid-range device, it’s quite fast with a Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 hexa core processor clocked at 1.82GHz, which is backed by 2GB of RAM.
None of the phones has expandable storage, and the variants you’ll find for the iPhone 6S have capacities of 16/64/128 GB, while the Nexus 5X is available in variants of 16/32 GB.
The battery of the iPhone 6S is much smaller – 1715 mAh, but iOS 9 comes with a new low power mode which extends its life. The Nexus 5X can be charged via the Type-C 1.0 reversible connector and the capacity of its battery is 2700mAh. Android 6.0 Marshmallow has also Doe, a power saver which is very efficient.
The iPhone 6S is the first Apple device with a major improvement to the camera department, the resolution of the primary camera has been increased from 8MP to 12MP, while the front camera supports 5MP. Also, the flagship supports phase detection autofocus and 4K video capture, plus it has a new feature called Live Photos, which records a short video of 1.5 seconds before the photo is taken + 1.5 seconds afterwards.
The Nexus 5X obtained a better score in the DxOMark test (64 vs 82) with its 12.3MP Sony IMX 377 sensor with f/2.0 optics and laser autofocus, but its front camera has the same resolution as the iPhone 6S.
