Android 6.0 Marshmallow is already rolling out for a good part of the Nexus devices. Currently, there are many non-Nexus devices owners waiting for the Android Marshmallow to be released for their Android smartphones or tablets.
Manufacturers already started to reveal which mobile devices will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow but they don’t want to give a release date yet. It seems that they are not so sure how the tests will go and they want to be 100% sure that they give a real date when the OTA update will start rolling on their devices.
It is better this way, as the customers will be disappointed if you promise that you will start rolling out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update starting from date “X”, and a few days before that date you come and announce that the release date is being postponed.
As we’ve told you in our previous articles, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update status for some Motorola devices has been leaked online, showing that two devices (Moto X Style and Moto X (2nd gen)) are already running on the latest Android OS. This means that soon enough, the OTA update for these two devices will be released.
According to Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, the OnePlus devices will receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update sometime in the Q1 of 2016. Pei also added that the OnePlus 2 device will also be updated to the Android 6.0 Marshmallow in the same period and that the update will include a new standard Marshmallow API for the fingerprint sensor.
It seems that OnePlus will not create a separate API for the current fingerprint implementation in OxygenOS as the company has finally decided to switch over to the standard Android 6.0 Marshmallow implementation.
Currently, there is no news regarding the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update for the new OnePlux X device.
