Samsung Galaxy J5 vs. Galaxy J7 – Two Identical Mid-Range Smartphones
This summer, Samsung has enriched its portfolio with two new mid-range devices which have the classic design with a plastic back which can be removed. One of the devices is a phablet with two variants of processors, which othe other has an average size and weaker specs. Here’s a comparison between the Galaxy J5 and J7.
Designs and Displays
At first sight, you’ll be tricked to believe that the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 look like an old Samsung model, because they don’t have an impressive aspect. The manufacturer went back to using polycarbonate to make the shell, and the glossy finish doesn’t confer a premium look. Anyway, you’ll be surprised to hear that these mid-range phones come with a metal frame which protects the sides, because until now, Samsung used the low-quality plastic frames painted to look like aluminum. Both devices come in white, black and gold colors, have the volume button located on the left side, while the power button sits at a convenient hand on the right side.
The Galaxy J5 is the smaller variant which measures 142.1×71.8×7.9mm and weights 146grams, it sports a 5-inch Super AMOLED screen and its resolution is 720x1280pixels at 294ppi. The Galaxy J7 supports the same resolution on its 5.5-inch screen, but the pixel density is lower at 267ppi. The device weights 171grams and it’s slimmer, measuring in total 152.2×78.7×7.5mm.
Both devices support 1.5GB of RAM and come with a microSD card slot which allows you to expand the internal memory up to 128GB, The J7 has only one variant of 16GB, while the J5 has a second variant with a capacity of 8GB, which won’t be to the liking of many people. Anyway, the small model is powered by a weak Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 process with four cores clocked at 1.2GHz, which are backed by Adreno 306 graphics, while the phablet uses either a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 quad core processor clocked at 1.4GHz, or an Exynos 7580 octa core processor which runs at 1.5GHz.
Cameras and Batteries
The cameras are identical, and not only their resolutions are the same, but they also have mutual features. So, the primary camera supports a resolution of 13MP and the list of features includes an aperture of f/1.9, LED flash, autofocus and Full HD video capture. The selfie lovers will take good quality photos even at night, because the 5MP front camera has a LED flash.
Both devices have removable batteries, but their capacities depend on the devices’ dimensions. Therefore, the J5 supports a 2600mAh unit, while the J7 sports a larger 3000mh battery.
The smaller J5 is available at a price of at $210 on Amazon, while the J7 is a bit more expensive, costing $242.
