Microsoft vs. Fitbit – Which One Has Created The Best Tracker?
When the first trackers have been released, they had limited features, being used only for counting the steps taken by the users while they were walking or jogging. The new types of trackers have an extended battery life, look better and have additional features. So, in this article, we decided to compare two popular fitness trackers, which will tell you more than how many steps you took or how far did you get. Meet the Fitbit Surge and the Microsoft Band 2.
The fitness trackers which are found now on the market are able to share your heart rate or use GPS to tell you the exact mileage etc. And the Fitbit Surge, which is a premium tracker, is worth giving a try. It costs $249 and it has a large touchscreen (Monochrome LCD with backlight for low light visibility), which means that the device is pretty big. It has a wristband made of a material which is similar to what is used for making sports watches.
The list of sensors and components includes GPS, 3-axis accelerometers, 3-axis gyroscope, Digital compass, Optical heart rate monitor, Altimeter, Ambient light sensor and Vibration motor. Also, it’s water resistant, but we don’t recommend you to swim or take a bath with it. It operates at temperatures between -4° and 113°F and at a maximum altitude of 30,000 feet. The battery is made of Lithium-polymer and can last up to seven days, which is a big advantage. Also, the charge time is average, from one to two hours.
Surge can sync to tablet, computers (via Internet connection and USB port), Android, iOS and Windows smartphones via Bluetooth 4.0, from a distance of up to 20 feet, and it controls music via Bluetooth Classic.
Microsoft Band 2
It has the same price as the Surge, but its battery lasts less. Compared to its predecessor, it has a more curved design, and the screen is longish, measuring 32 x 12.8 mm, which results in a resolution of 320 x 128 pixels.
Its features include Optical heart rate monitor, Three-axis accelerometer, Gyrometer, GPS, Microphone, Ambient light sensor, Galvanic skin response sensors, UV sensor, Skin temperature sensor, Capacitive sensor and Baro. Also, it notifies you when you have some important events in your calendar, when you receive texts or emails, and it will check your exposure to ultraviolet rays. In addition, it will check the volume of oxygen processed by your body in a minute and it calculates the V02 max.
It’s compatible with mobile devices running on Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2, iOS 8.1, Android 4.4 or later and it connects via Bluetooth.
