WhatsApp Photos Tricks and Tips – Hide Them From The Device Guide
When you receive photos on WhatsApp, they’re automatically saved on your card and show up in your general photo gallery, being accessible to your friends who are “borrowing” your phone and take a peek at what’s inside, including your pictures. If you don’t want them to know what photos your WhatsApp friends have sent you, then there is a way to hide WhatsApp pictures from the gallery application.
The good news is that you won’t need to root your phone, but you’ll need to install a file explorer for Android. Then, after opening the file manager application and navigate with it to the WhatsApp folder, which most likely will be on the /sd card. Then, click WhatsApp > Media and go to the WhatsApp images where you will see a hamburger (three dots) icon locate at the top right. When clicking on it, you’ll see the New box and you’ll click on File.
Then, you will need to create a file which will be called .nomedia and after tapping on OK, a toast will appear telling you that the file has been created. Now, you will need to return to the gallery app, where the WhatsApp folder should be gone, in case it’s still there, then you will need to clear the cache from Settings > Apps/app manager > Gallery/album.
If the .nomedia file doesn’t appear in the WhatsApp images folder, then it’s probably hidden, so you’ll enable hidden files in the file manager.
Now, go back to the WhatsApp images folder where will appear the hidden files. The .nomedia file will be deleted and the images will reappear in the gallery application, if you don’t want them to show up in the file manager, you will need to turn off hidden files.
