Designs and Displays

The iPhone 6S is the copy of its predecessor, but the material which was is to make the exterior is more durable, it doesn’t bend anymore, because Apple ditched the old and slim aluminum carcass and replaced it with one that contains a thicker alloy, called Series 7000 aluminum. It’s very hard to notice that the new model is a bit taller and thicker than the iPhone 6, as now it measures 138.3×67.1×7.1mm, but it’s clearly heavier, because it weights 143grams, with 20 grams more than the previous phone. The screen hasn’t suffered any change in terms of size and resolution, as it still measures 4.7-inch and supports 750x1334pixels at 326ppi, but Apple has integrated a new pressure sensitivity technology called 3D Touch, which triggers various actions depending on the level of pressure applied to the screen. The iPhone 6S has also a new color option, Rose Gold, and the Touch ID supports Apple Pay, the mobile payment service which uses near field communication.

The Nexus 5X has a Nexus Imprint fingerprint scanner on its back, below the rear camera, its body is made of plastic and it doesn’t give a premium look, but at least it’s available in three variants of colors: Carbon, Quartz and Ice. On the front side, it looks like a Motorola handset with two horizontal speakers. The dimensions are 147×72.6×7.9mm, but even if the device is much taller and thicker than the iPhone 6S, it’s 7grams lighter, its screen measures 5.2-inch and it offers a Full HD resolution at 423ppi, while the technology is IPS LCD.

Hardware

The iPhone 6S houses the new Apple A9 Dual-core 1.84 GHz Twister processor, which is between 70 and 90 percent faster than A8, but that’s because it’s helped by the double RAM. The Nexus 5X has only a Qualcomm MSM8992 Snapdragon 808 hexa core processor clocked at 1.82GHz, which runs decently with 2Gb of RAM.

None of the devices offers a microSD card slot, but the buyers can choose one of the available variants of storage. The iPhone 6S comes in three variants of internal memories: 16, 64 and 128GB, while the Nexus 5X is available in two variants of 16 and 32GB.

Cameras and Batteries

Apple has increased the resolutions of iPhone 6S’ cameras from 8MP to 12MP and from 1.2MP to 5MP. The features include simultaneous 4K video and 8MP image recording, phase detection autofocus, dual-LED flash, and with the Live Photos option, the users can take short videos combining 1.5seconds before taking the shot and 1.5seconds after the shot.

The Nexus 5X has a new 12.3MP Sony sensor with laser autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash, 1.55µm pixel size and 4K video capture, while its front camera supports 5MP.

The iPhone 6S has a small battery of only 1715mAh, which offers only 14 hours of talk time, while the battery of the Nexus 5X is almost 1000mAh bigger, it has a longer lifespan and can be charged via the Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.
