Lin Bin, Xiaomi’s founder and president, has posted a teaser on Weibo about the Xiaomi Mi 4 smartphone which will receive Microsoft’s Windows 10 software today. However, only the device from China will be upgraded to this OS, as it’s currently running on Android v4.4.3 (KitKat) and nine months ago, Xiaomi has made the announcement that the company has started a collaboration with Microsoft in order to test Windows 10 on its phones.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 is sold in India for Rs 14,999 ($225) for the 16GB model and Rs 17,999 ($170) for the 64GB model, but the users can’t expand the internal storage, which is a big disadvantage. The smartphone has been released in August 2014, it features a plastic back available in black or white colors, while its sides are protected by a metal frame. The physical dimensions of the Mi 4 are 139.2×68.5×8.9mm, the device weights 149 grams and it has an IPS LCD screen sized at 5-inch, which supports a Full HD resolution at 441ppi. Inside, it hides a 32bit Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 quad-core 2.5GHz Krait 400 processor, which is backed by Adreno 330 graphics and 3GB of RAM. The main camera has a resolution of 13MP and its features include autofocus, LED flash, 1/3′ sensor size, 1.12µm pixel size and 2160p video capture at 30fps, while the front camera supports 8MP. The battery has a capacity of 3080 mAh, it’s non-removable and lasts an entire day under normal use.
For starters, the Chinese owners of this smartphone will be able to upgrade it to Windows 10 OS, being the second Xiaomi device which will run on Microsoft’s software, after the company has released the Mi Pad 2 tablet with the same operating system.
According to the rumors, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 5 will be launched with Windows 10 OS out of the box, although GSMArena claims that the flagship will run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, the device is expected to feature a larger screen of 5.3-inch with a QHD resolution, it will be powered by the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 octa core processor formed by a quad-core 2.2 GHz CPU and a quad-core 1.8GHz CPU, which will be backed by Adreno 530 graphics and 4GB of RAM, and will feature the same variants of internal memories, the rear camera will support 16MP and will take pictures with OIS, dual-LED flash and autofocus, and will record 4K videos at 30fps.
