iPhone 6S Plus vs. iPad Mini 4 – A Phablet Or A Small Tablet?

3

Nowadays, the size of a smartphone is either medium or extra large, close to the dimensions of a mini tablet. Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus, which was the first smartphone with a 5.5-inch display, was a top seller, while the iPad Mini has known a big decrease in sales and Apple was hoping that the fans will give it chance. The iPad Mini 4 was unveiled in September, but the presentation was short. The audience was more interested in discovering the new iPhones and the iPad Pro, but in this article we’ll tell you about the iPhone 6S Plus phablet.

Designs

Let’s say that the iPad Mini 4 is a phone with an extra large screen and it’s a bit uncomfortable to hold it at your ear, when having phone conversations. But the advantage of this tablet is that it’s easier to carry, it doesn’t occupy too much space in your bag, although it doesn’t fit in your pockets. In terms of design, you will notice that the iPad Mini 4 looks like all Apple tablets, featuring a simple aluminum back whose color is either Space Gray, Silver or Gold, it’s very slim at 6.1mm and the WiFi-only model is lighter at 299grams, while the 3G/LTE model weights 304 grams. The iPhone 6S Plus has a thickness of 7.3mm and its back has two horizontal lines at the top and bottom, hiding the radio antennas, but in addition to the standard three variants of colors, Apple has brought a new shade called Rose Gold. Also, the phablet weights 192 grams, being 20 grams heavier than its predecessor.

Displays

Both devices have a fingerprint scanner below their screens, but only the iPhone 6S Plus supports the Apple Pay mobile payment system and inside the 5.5-inch Retina display with a Full HD resolution was integrated the 3D Touch technology, which detects how hard or soft is tapping the user and it triggers various actions. The iPad Mini 4 has a 7.9-inch which supports 2048×1536 pixels and the same resolution of 326ppi.

Hardware

The iPhone 6S Plus is powered by the newer Apple A9 dual-core 1.84 GHz Twister which is backed by an M9 coprocessor, PowerVR GT7600 six-core graphics and 2GB of RAM. The iPad Mini 4 uses an Apple A8 dual-core 1.5 GHz Typhoon processor, which is coupled with an M8 coprocessor, a PowerVR GX6450 GPU and 2GB of RAM. It’s no use to tell you that the iPhone is much more powerful. But their internal memories are identical, being available in variants of 16, 64 and 128GB.

Cameras

The iPad Mini 4 has an iSight camera on the back with a resolution of 8MP and an aperture of ƒ/2.4 aperture, but it lacks LED flash and records Full HD videos at 30fps. The front camera supports 1.2MP and records 720p HD videos. The iPhone 6S Plus has upgraded cameras, with higher resolutions of 12MP and 5MP, and the main one supports True Tone flash, Optical image stabilization, an ƒ/2.2 aperture and 4K video recording.
