Xiaomi Mi5 vs. Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 Prime – A Mid-Range Smartphone Is Challenging The Upcoming Flagship
The Redmi Note 2 Prime is an improvement over its predecessor in terms of specs, but compared to the Mi5, it’s not as powerful and it also has a smaller screen with a lower resolution, the Xiaomi Mi5 is rumored to be released on January 21, in India, and will come with Qualcomm’s new processor and the Type-C 1.0 reversible connector.
Dimensions and Displays
The Redmi Note 2 Prime features a simple plastic back curved on the edges, which is available in two variants of colors: White and Dark gray and has a rear camera with a square lens located in the top center. Under the 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen which offers a resolution of 720×1280 pixels at 312 ppi were integrated three capacitive keys with a red accent, while the bezels around the screen are pretty thick, this phone measures 134x67x9mm and it weights 133grams.
The Xiaomi Mi5 will have a white metal body and it is rumored that it will measure 140.89×71.4×5.1mm, but its weights hasn’t been specified. As for the screen, it will be an IPS LCD sized at 5.3-inch, which will support a pixel density of 554ppi resulted from the QHD resolution.
The Redmi Note 2 Prime has almost the same specifications as the Moto G 2015, meaning that it’s powered by a Qualcomm MSM8916 Snapdragon 410 quad core processor, but its clock speed is lower at 1.2GHz, and it’s backed by 2GB of RAM. Also, it’s good to hear that the internal memory supports expansion, so you double its capacity of 16GB.
The Mi5 won’t support a microSD card slot, and it will be available in two variants of internal memories of 16GB and 64GB, the processor will be the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 octa core with four cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four cores will run at 1.8GHz, being backed by 4GB of RAM.
The Redmi Note 2 Prime came loaded with Android 4.4.4 KitKat and it will be stuck with it for a while, the Mi 5 will run on Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Cameras and Batteries
The Redmi Note 2 Prime takes average quality pictures with its 8MP main shooter which has features such as LED flash, autofocus, 1.4 µm pixel size, HDR and Full HD video capture. The front camera has a resolution of 2MP, and we recommend you to use only for making video calls.
The Xiaomi Mi5 has a more advanced 16MP primary camera with OIS and dual-LED flash, and it’s capable of recording QHD videos at 30fps, while the front camera has a resolution of 6MP.
Redmi Note 2 Prime’s battery is removable and has a capacity of 2200 mAh, while the flagship will house a 3030 mAh battery, last summer, the manufacturer teased us with a video in which the Mi5 was supporting wireless charging.
