Moto G Upgraded To Android 6.0 Marshmallow via CyanogenMod CM13 custom ROM

1

The first generation Moto G mid-range smartphone hasn’t been included by Motorola on the list of devices eligible for being upgraded to the latest Android Marshmallow. Luckily, there is a way out and the CyanogenMod has released a special custom ROM for the Moto G 2013 device. Android Marshmallow-based CM13 (official) nightly firmware can be downloaded for free, from the internet, and we’ll teach you how to install it.

Before installing CM13 Android 6.0 Marshmallow on your Moto G device, first of all, you’ll need to verify the device model, because this custom ROM is compatible only with the Falcon models. So, you’ll need to go to Settings > About phone and check the model number. Remember that by installing a custom ROM on your device will lead to losing its warranty and you will no longer receive software updates. Also, you’ll need to clear memory and to back up data using Clockwork Mod (CWM) Recovery/ TWRP. The battery of the phone must be at least 80 percent charged, or else, the device will be bricked if the installation process will be interrupted.

How To Install CyanogenMod [official] CM13 Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM

You’ll need to download the CyanogenMod [official] CM13 Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM along with Google Apps on your computer, then use a UBC cord to connect your Moto G smartphone to it.

Both the CyanogenMod [official] CM13 Android 6.0 Marshmallow zip file and the Google Apps file must be copied to the phone’s memory, in the storage root folder. The phone must be rooted and you need to install the ClockworkMod Recovery/TWRP tool on it.

Now, turn off the phone and unplug it from your computer and enter the Recovery Mode by press holding the Volume down and Power buttons. Next step is to clear the phone memory, so choose wipe data/factory reset, by using the Volume keys for navigation and the Power button to select options.

Then, you will clear the cache memory and to do that, select wipe cache partition and return to Recovery Mode where you’ll tap on “Advanced” and “wipe dalvik cache”. Now, return to the main recovery screen and select “install zip from SD card”, then “choose zip from sdcard” and go to the Android ROM .zip file which you’ve saved in your SD card. Tap on it to start the installation process and do the same with the Google Apps.

After the installation process is complete, go to “+++++Go Back+++++” and reboot your phone by selecting the “reboot system now” option from the recovery menu. Wait a few minutes until the phone will complete the booting process. The last thing you’ll need to do is to confirm the installation of the CyanogenMod [official] CM13 Android 6.0 Marshmallow custom ROM by going to Settings > About phone.
