WhatsApp for Windows Phone Gets Android-Like Updates: Starred Messages, New Camera UI, and More
The guys at Facebook-owned WhatsApp recently rolled out a new version of this app for Android users.
This wasn’t anything strange (leaving out Windows Phone users) as it has happened on more than one occasion before this. When they released the Android update, quite a number of new features were added to this platform, among them ability to star messages, rich preview links, Direct Share for users of the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow, among many others. However, those using Microsoft-based Windows Phone were yet to receive any of these updates.
No more waiting
If you have patiently been waiting for WhatsApp to bring the updates mentioned above to the Windows Phone platform, your patience has finally paid. Even though the update does not bring the entire catalog of recent updates that Android users have received, the latest version of this chat app brings in the much-anticipated ability to star messages on the app among a few other major additions.
According to a report by NPU, WhatsApp’s newest version has brought an essential feature to the platform: the ability to add stars to messages.
The feature works just in the same way as the Android update where one has to press and hold on a messageto bring out the star icon. Once you’ve starred the messages, you can later access them via the “Featured Messages” section found on the bottom menu.
Other essential additions
Other than this anticipated change, Facebook developers also came in with a bunch of tweaks and improvements that should make the application a lot easier and joyful to use. There is a new photo and video upload user interface with a redesign that promises a better user experience. In addition to this, users of WhatsApp on Windows Phone will come from a new Camera interface.
No further notable updates have been included in the new version. Members of the Windows beta testing program may have already seen these features in their latest beta versions, but it is the first time the public version will be receiving these features.
The new update shoves the app’s version to v184.108.40.206,and it is already available for download via the official Windows Store free. As long as your device is running on Windows Phone and above, you shouldn’t have any problem downloading, installing and using the new version of WhatsApp.
