Samsung Announces Galaxy Series Smartphones in Line for Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

0

Ever since the new Android 6.0 Marshmallow was unveiled a few months ago, we are yet to see any Samsung smartphone with this new operating system.

In fact, only Google’s newest devices, Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X and a series of other Nexus devices have this operating system. Other companies like LG have already pushed the update to some of their latest flagships among them LG G4. Even though Samsung had not mentioned it before, it was obvious that it was preparing a number of its devices for this update. The only question was when this update will be made available to these devices.

The answer is finally here as the latest reports reveal that 11 of the current Samsung Galaxy smartphones will receive the upgrade to Android 6.0 Marshmallow during the first quarter. Samsung had already pushed snippets of this new operating system to Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Note 4 as well; however, the company has now unveiled a full list of the phones that will see this OS in Q1 2016.

The full list comprises Samsung Galaxy Note 5, all the S6 series including the Galaxy S6 Duos, the older Galaxy Note Edge, Note 4, Note 4 Duos as well as last year’s flagship Galaxy S5, S5 Neo and the S5 LTE-A. The news is even better for the owners of some of the company’s latest tablets, among them the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7, Tab S2 8.0, Tab A as well as the Galaxy ALPHA, as they will also be getting this update. However, they will have to wait until the second quarter of next year to update their devices.

There is nothing to fret about if your Samsung device doesn’t appear on this list as at the moment, it cannot be verified whether it is the final list from the company. Still, there could be some changes in the dates named, but the discrepancies shouldn’t be significant.

All listed Samsung devices to receive Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

The latest update to Android M is version 6.0.1 and according to a separate source, this is the version that Samsung is working to push onto its devices. This could be huge news for the users as it means the devices will simply jump to the version that is filled with emoji and brings back the “do not disturb until” tool for silencing notification alerts when sleeping.

Samsung Galaxy S7 to come with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Even though Samsung has only listed 11 smartphones for the upcoming Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update, there is another phone that is not on the list: Samsung Galaxy S7. The latest rumors point to mid-March as the latest date for availing this phone on the market. The phone is expected to be announced during the upcoming MWC 2016 and if all goes to plan, it will be powered by the latest Android 6.0.1 M.

We’ll keep you updated with the list of Samsung devices to receive this update as the company avails it.
