Now that Android Nougat has been around for almost a month and many newer gen Nexus devices are already seeing it, some of you are probably wondering if your devices will soon get it, especially if you acquired your smartphone from a different manufacturer than Google.
HTC 10, One A9, One M9 and One M8 Gets Android 7.0 Nougat Update
Well, if you happen to be an HTC device owner, here is what we know so far about the Android Nougat release date for HTC 10, One M9 and One A9.
To begin with, HTC has been quoted by Tech Radar as saying that the aforementioned devices will be getting the upgrade at the end of 2016. It is believed that they did not mention other older phone generations because HTC is not in the habit of upgrading devices that are older than three years old. For example, the One M7 did not get Android Marshmallow and it’s quite possible that the One M8 will not be getting Android N this time around.
The Tech Radar news is also confirmed by a statement made on Twitter by Mo Versi – HTC VP of Product Management. However, some users are a little skeptical about the vague release date window.
While it’s true that last year’s Android Marshmallow rolled out on the latest gen HTC devices in December 2015 – this was the case for some carriers, while for others, like Verizon, it showed up early in 2016. So the same thing might happen this year and some users may be getting the upgrade no sooner than early 2017.
At the same time, it appears that Nougat is rolling out to Nexus devices faster than it did last year so it’s very possible that it will come sooner to HTC devices as well. There’s also very little chance for the owners of HTC devices that haven’t even updated to Android Marshmallow to actually upgrade to Android Nougat.
