If you own a BlackBerry device and you are using the WhatsApp application, then we have some good news for you. As most of you already know, WhatsApp was firstly supposed to stop functioning on these devices starting from January 2017, but for some reason, the developers of this application have decided to extend the support until the end of June 2017.
Well it seems that once again the developers have decided to extend the support for WhatsApp on BlackBerry until December 31, 2017. So everyone that owns a BlackBerry device that runs on BlackBerry 7 or BlackBerry 10 will still be able to use the WhatsApp application on their device until the end of the year.
However, in order to keep using WhatsApp on your BlackBerry 10, you will need to update the application to the latest compatible version via the BlackBerry World App store that comes pre-installed on your device.
Keep in mind that BlackBerry devices such as KEYone or Aurora will not be affected as the run on Android OS instead of BlackBerry OS. In addition to BlackBerry, the WhatsApp application support will also be extended to other old platform such as the Symbian S40.
The reason why the developers have decided to remove the support for these old platforms is that they want to improve the WhatsApp application, so they will need to bring some new features and options. Unfortunately, most of the new features and options can’t be supported by these outdated platforms.
One of the new features that is rumored to be released for WhatsApp sometime in the near future is named “Video Conference.” If rumors prove to be right, you will be able to finally make video calls with two or more users at the same on the WhatsApp application.
What other new features would you like to see being added to WhatsApp?
