WhatsApp Will Start Commercializing Special Chat Features for Businesses
Back in 2014 Facebook acquired WhatsApp for $22 billion, but the purchase did not appear to be a profitable one for the social network giant. After Facebook used the Messenger app in order to promote ads, now it is WhatsApp’s turn to be monetized. The popular chat app will add some special features designed for businesses and it will charge them for it. When these features roll out, many businesses will receive a powerful new tool that will allow them to provide their clients with important updates and news.
WhatsApp is working on some special chat features for businesses
Most small businesses are already using WhatsApp as a way to keep in touch with their customers. However, the app plans to make this process easier and this time it targets both small and big businesses. The new features will transform WhatsApp into an excellent communication channel for businesses and their clients. A verified business will receive a small green badge.
Chief Operating Officer Matt Idema declared in an interview that “We do intend on charging businesses in the future.” However, we do not have details about the actual fees or how the system will work.
The features are already being tested
WhatsApp is determined to roll out the new features as soon as possible and apparently a pilot program is already available. Developers are still testing the features for the enterprise sector and sources report that spam messages are one of the biggest challenges. The app has been asking users whether they have received any spam messages recently.
We do not know yet how business accounts will be used. Large companies require more than one person in order to communicate with the customers, but WhatsApp accounts are created with one phone number.
