The Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system will soon loose territory with the arrival of the newest Android OS: Android 8.0 Oreo. The update has been released for the Google’s Pixel phones and the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. The update can be downloaded from the official Android website.
Which Xiaomi devices will make the cut?
The Chinese company has been silent so far and it is not known for sure which smartphones will receive the Oreo update. The company is considered the Chinese Apple equivalent and even though it does not use the iOS operating system, the portfolio is quite impressive.
The shipments have been increased all thanks to the new Redmi Note 4 and Redmi Note 3.
The devices expected to receive the Android Oreo 8.0 update are: the Mi Mix, Mi Max 2, Mi 6, Mi Max, Mi 5C, Mi 5S, Mi 5S Plus, Mi Note 2, Mi 5X.
Almost everybody is convinced that the MI5 will not make the cut. The update will most likely take place in the first quarter of 2018.
The Mi A1 also on the list
The Mi A1 smartphone will definitely get the Android 8.0 Oreo update, but its Google’s responsibility due to the fact that the device is an Android One phone. The device might also be eligible for the Android 8.1 update (Android P) in two years time.
The Redmi series
The Redmi series are budget smartphones and it is possible that they will not receive the Oreo update. If any Redmi devices were to get it then the list would include: the Redmi Node 4, Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 5A, Redmi Note 5A Prime and Redmi Note 5.
Most unlikely to get the update are Redmi 2, Redmi 3, Redmi 3s, Redmi 3s Prime, Mi Pad and Mi Pad 2, Mi 5, Mi 4i and Mi 4 S.
