Could Yahoo Voice compete with Skype?
Both Skype and Yahoo Voice offer calling services, PC to PC or PC to Phone/Tablet. Even if in terms of instant messaging, Yahoo is the more experienced company, Skype is the leader in Voice calling.
Yahoo Voice vs. Skype
The two services offer voice calling and both have tones of subscribers. In order to decide which one is more convenient, it is necessary to analyze several features:
- Generalities of the apps: Yahoo Voice has been added later to Yahoo Messaging, while Skype has been designed as a Voice over IP app. The softphone part of Skype is user friendly and lighter. Yahoo offers many features in one, but it can be sometimes confusing or tiring for the eyes: emoticons, audibles, chatting background and IMVironment.
- In terms of cost, Yahoo Voice is the winner. Yahoo has better rates than Skype, especially for international calls (1 cent/minute).
- Voice quality is better on Skype, which offers better voice and video quality. For Yahoo, users need sufficient bandwidth.
- While Skype is seen as an app mainly for calls, while Yahoo is considered an SNS. Yahoo offers chartrooms with voice chatting facilities. Most users prefer Skype for business and Yahoo for personal use.
