Nintendo Switch will release Payday 2 next week, the game that first got launched on PC almost five years ago. But there might be an issue that hasn’t been much debated by the developers. Will it have the same content and will it get a proper voice chat? Here’s what we know and the latest answer from Nintendo on these issues.

Payday 2, A Great Co-Op Heist Game

The game is all about coordination, in order to get the heists completed and it didn’t pose much of a concern when playing it on PC, PS4, or Xbox One with either the built-in voice chat or a third party program. But Nintendo Switch doesn’t have a voice chat. How will players react to it? We’re telling you: it’s going to be frustrating.

However, Nintendo has tried to make the best of what they have and they’ve created an app, called Nintendo Online. The app can be installed on a phone and use it as a means of chatting. But for the moment, the app can only be used with Splatoon 2.

The company also encourages players to use the official Discord server for PAYDAY 2. As for the Nintendo Online, there still isn’t news if they’re going to add more games for the voice chat.

But still, you’d have to use a device near for Discord, because Nintendo Switch doesn’t support it. Moreover, when you get contracts through the in-game service called ‘CRIME.NET.’ and team up with other parties, it’s going to take you a lot of time until you get them all to use the Discord chat, so it’s a huge drawback.

What’s interesting about the Nintendo Switch version of Payday 2 is that it’s going to feature a local multiplayer mode: ‘CRIME.NET Local Play’. So, if you want to communicate with someone, you’ll have to use this mode and play on the same network, in the same room.

Latest Update: Nintendo Switch Online App

Nintendo Switch Online will launch in September, having a $20/year subscription. The latest statement from Nintendo about their Online app has been offered on 23 February:

‘Voice chat is only enabled in games that have been specifically designed to use the feature in conjunction with the Nintendo Switch smart device application.’
